In 2005, when we landed in Bangalore, India, we were unaware that there was a thriving expat community eager to welcome newcomers. Fortunately, we learned about the Overseas Women's Club within our first week of arrival and that discovery significantly eased our transition into Indian culture.
So before we moved to Stockholm, we contacted the American Women's Club of Stockholm. Before out trip to Chiang Mai, we contacted the Chiang Mai Expat Club.
For our trip to SMA, we leveraged church connections and contacted members of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of San Miguel de Allende.
The members of the local UU Fellowship offered us advice regarding how to rent a house, plenty of information on travel planning and sights to see. One couple from the UU Fellowship even greeted us upon our arrival in SMA and took us to dinner where they provided even more local information as well as lots of interesting conversation. We could not have asked for more!
Our general travel plans included:
- Booking a house in SMA for three weeks (Oct 10 - Nov 2, 2017)
- Air travel from Atlanta directly to Leon, Mexico (BJX)
- Pre-arranged transportation from the airport to SMA with a company called BajioGo
- Pre-arranged transportation from SMA back to the Leon airport
- Air travel to Oaxaca
- Booking an AirBnB in Oaxaca
So let the adventure begin!
